Event 3:
June 9th, 2022
The event that I chose to attend and write about is titled, "Color, Light,Motion. Episode 10".This event explores the beautiful art installations by renown American artist, Ted Victoria. Following his enrollment at Rutgers University in New Jersey, Ted Victoria wanted to make his career in art worthwhile. He decided to move to Europe for a few years and take inspiration from French, English, and German artists. As a result, a star was born.
In order to make his installations, Ted gathers up traditionally low tech, homemade devices and projections as well as objects from his home to create peculiar installations based on their silhouette. Many of his installations can be found in plastic and glass cases as well as no cases at all. As mentioned in the event, the single most deciding factor behind him pursuing his art form was really understanding how the mechanics worked. Some would even point to his interest in building random things as a child to fuel his creative side. A few of his more popular and prominent pieces include the seamonkey projection, duck feather projection, and old fashioned light bulb projection.
My favorite art insulation by Ted Victoria was the projection of the duck feather. Growing up, my father and grandpa told me stories about how they used to raise ducks in the backyard at their home in Santa Monica, CA. Although many people might look at this art installation and shrug while looking at it, I appreciated the piece and found beauty in the delicate feather. As I reflect on my initial feeling looking at the art, I knew then that I needed to be more appreciative of the world around me and the appreciate the beauty in the simplest things in life.
